Unnecessary Loss of Money

With everything going on today, many people will need to take steps to stay safe physically and financially.

Here are some ways that people in today’s society tend to develop unnecessary spending habits:

1.    Buying brand name products

  •  Check the labels. Most of the time, the generic branded products contain the same ingredients at a more affordable price.

2.    Grocery shopping when hungry

  • When your eyes are bigger than your stomach, extra money gets spent in the grocery store. In addition, buying pre-sliced foods are more expensive. Purchase whole foods and take the time to do the slicing at home.

3.    In-game purchases

  • Remove your credit card information from games to avoid the temptation of small purchases that will eventually add up.

4.    Only using debit/credit cards

  • Withdrawing a fixed amount of cash periodically will help reduce spending. There is a psychological component to spending money. It is easier to spend money when you do not actually see it. When you have to see it leave your wallet, then you are less likely to overspend.

5.    Skimping on health and hygiene habits

  • People often think that they can skip healthy habits. This thinking process leads many to develop bad habits. Not washing your hands, brushing your teeth, alcohol and junk food habits and not taking care of yourself in general will all come back to bite you. Look long term and weigh the potential medical bills. Take the extra time to implement new healthy habits.

6.    Not carrying a re-usable coffee cup

  • Most places charge less per cup of coffee when you bring your own mug. If you do, the company does not have to cover the cost of disposable cups and lids, therefore, the price is significantly decreased.

7.    Not taking advantage of qualifying discounts

  • Student discounts may be hidden. Make sure to ask for any discounts that may be available before making your purchase.

Become more financially responsible, today, by implementing the above information into your spending habits.
