Do Your Ribs Actually Move "Out-of-Place?"

If you are reading this, you have probably been told by a healthcare professional that you have a rib “out-of-place.”

With current research and studies, we have learned that bones do not actually go “out-of-place.” The joint itself becomes dysfunctional instead.

This means that the normal motion that joint is supposed to have has become restricted and painful.

A common area of pain following rib dysfunction is between the shoulder blades and spine in the mid-back. Some people describe the pain as if they were “shot by an arrow.” The pain is often provoked by breathing, coughing, sneezing, twisting or bending.

Common causes rib dysfunction:

  1. Postural Strain

  2. Trauma/Injury

  3. Repetitive Compression or Rotation of the Mid-Back

  4. Carrying Heavy Weight on the Shoulders

  5. Repetitive Reaching, Pulling, or Pushing

How do we treat this?
